It would be nice to have a magic wand to fix the earth’s climate problems or better, a cheap, renewable source of energy we could give away for free (tell me again why we haven’t figured out the sun, wind and sea to mass produce energy?!). Until then, our little brewery has signed the Climate Neutral Now pledge, an initiative by no less than the UNFCCC secretariat.(Continues below)
We have pledged to measure our footprint, reduce and recycle it where possible and offset the balance so that our brewery has a zero affect on the environment. Like any scheme, it’s not perfect but it is a step in the right direction. Best of all, it’s not just companies that take the pledge, but people and countries too.
The key three steps involved are;
- Measure and report our greenhouse gas emissions for an agreed-upon period of time
- Reduce our greenhouse gas emissions as much as possible
- Offset remaining emissions with UN Certified Emission Reductions (CERs).
While we only have a small brewery, it feels good to know that we’re playing our part in turning the earth’s climate problems around.
